Boxing Week 2026 — Post-Christmas Clearance and Year-End Sales

Where the depth is real (and where it isn't)

• Holiday decor and seasonal items: 75 to 90% off at Target, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Costco. Year's deepest pricing on Christmas trees, ornaments, lights, themed kitchen items. Selection is what's left, but if you have storage and need to replace anything, this is the moment.
• Open-box and returned electronics: Best Buy Outlet, Walmart's open-box section, Amazon Warehouse all see large inventory influxes from holiday returns. Discounts of 25 to 40% off retail with full manufacturer warranty intact for most items.
• Toys (after Christmas): 30 to 50% off at Walmart, Target, Amazon. The unsold Christmas toys clear hard. Less popular SKUs go deeper than bestsellers (which mostly sold out before Christmas).
• Winter clothing: Continuation of Black Friday/Christmas pricing, with deeper depth on coats, sweaters, boots. Old Navy, Macy's, REI run 50 to 70% off original ticket through New Year's Day.
• Premium TVs (round 2): Selected models that didn't sell during Black Friday hit deeper clearance pricing through Boxing Week. Less reliable than Black Friday — depends on what didn't sell — but worth checking if you missed November.

Smart gift card spending

1. Apple gift cards: Apple offers a bonus credit (typically 5 to 10%) on gift card redemption during the post-holiday window. Apply the gift card to your Apple ID before purchasing, get the bonus credit toward future purchases. This essentially extends the gift card value by the bonus percentage.
2. Best Buy gift cards: Stack with their Cyber Week-extension pricing on TVs and laptops. Best Buy doesn't run a formal bonus on gift card redemption but the post-holiday TV pricing on previous-year flagships often combines with gift card use to hit absolute year-low prices.
3. Amazon gift cards: Apply to your Amazon balance immediately to earn interest as Amazon Pay credits. The gift card itself doesn't expire but applied balance does, so spend or save based on planned purchases through Q1.
4. Mall gift cards (Sephora, Macy's, Nordstrom): Use during the post-holiday clearance window for maximum value. Sephora's January promotions tend to be smaller than April or November sales, so the gift card stacks meaningfully against existing sale pricing.
5. GameStop / video game gift cards: Trade-in plus gift card events run through early January. Trade old games for credit, stack with the gift card for a current-gen game purchase.

Returns and exchanges — using the system

If you received a gift you don't need, the Boxing Week return window is actually generous. Most retailers extend their return windows for holiday-purchased items into late January (Best Buy and Apple to January 16, Walmart to January 31, Amazon to January 31 for items purchased October 1 through December 31). Three practical paths:

• Return for cash if possible. Best route — turns the gift into liquidity for what you actually want.
• Return for store credit if cash is not available. Use immediately during the post-holiday clearance pricing for best value.
• Exchange for the same product different size/color. Most retailers handle this without receipts as long as the item has the original tag.

Skip the resale path (Facebook Marketplace, Mercari) for holiday gifts under \$50 — the friction usually exceeds the discount on resale.
