Best Laptop Deals — Updated Daily

Laptop pricing swings hard week to week. The same Lenovo IdeaPad you saw at $599 last Tuesday is $499 this Friday and back to $649 next Monday. Most of those moves are not real — manufacturers and retailers shuffle list prices to make small discounts look bigger. The list below cuts through the noise: only laptops that are genuinely lower than they were a month ago, with reviews and stock to back the listing.

We watch about 80 laptop SKUs across the major retailers daily. The picks below are the ones we would buy ourselves at this price point. Brand mix varies week to week; some weeks it is mostly Lenovo and HP business lines, other weeks the Apple and ASUS gaming laptops surface.

How to read a laptop deal (in 30 seconds)

Three checks before you click buy:

  1. RAM. 8GB is the floor in 2026. Anything less and Chrome with a normal number of tabs will paginate. 16GB is the sweet spot for most students and office workers; 32GB only matters if you do video editing or run multiple development environments.
  2. SSD over HDD, always. A 256GB SSD beats a 1TB hard drive for the things that actually matter day to day (boot time, app launch, file save). 512GB SSD is the modern default; 1TB if you keep large media libraries on the laptop.
  3. Display matters more than people think. A 1080p IPS screen at 60Hz is fine for normal work. 2K or 1440p with 120Hz is meaningfully better for long sessions. 4K on a 13-inch screen is overkill and shortens battery life. OLED is great but adds $200 to $300 you may not need.

Where each laptop tier delivers value

When to buy and when to wait

Laptop discount cycles roughly follow this pattern:

If you can wait two months for one of these events, you typically save 15 to 25%. If you need it now and the model has been on the market over six months, the price you see is reasonably close to what you would pay later anyway.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Chromebook actually fine for college?
Depends on the major. Liberal arts, education, business, communications: yes, almost always. Most coursework is Google Docs, browser-based learning platforms, and Office 365 web. STEM, engineering, design, finance, computer science: no, you need Windows or Mac for the field-specific software. The Chromebook ceiling matters most after the first year when major-specific tools come into play.
MacBook Air or MacBook Pro?
MacBook Air M-series for 90% of users, including most students and office workers. The Pro is meaningful if you do video editing, music production, 3D rendering or run heavy local development with multiple containers. The Pro's better cooling, ProMotion display and extra ports are nice but not transformative for normal workflows.
Are refurbished laptops safe to buy?
Manufacturer-refurbished from Apple, Dell, Lenovo and HP direct: yes, with the same warranty as new. Amazon Renewed (Certified Refurbished) for major brands: usually safe with 90-day Amazon warranty. Avoid third-party 'renewed' listings on Amazon without the official Renewed badge — quality varies wildly.
How long does a laptop typically last?
Five to seven years for normal use, assuming the SSD does not fail. Battery is the most common wear item; replacement is $80 to $150 at year four or five. The biggest factor is whether the OS still supports the hardware: Windows 11 dropped support for processors older than 2017, so a 2016 Windows laptop's life ended in 2025 even if the hardware was fine. Macs typically get one to two extra years of OS support.
Should I get an extended warranty?
Apple AppleCare+: usually worth it for laptops, especially if you travel with it. Dell, Lenovo, HP business-line warranties: yes for ThinkPad, EliteBook, Latitude. Best Buy Geek Squad: rarely worth it; their service network is slower than the manufacturers'. Costco's free 2-year extension on Apple is a meaningful bonus for Costco buyers.
Why does the same laptop cost $200 more on Amazon than at Costco today?
Two reasons. Costco buys in larger volume and accepts thinner margin per unit. Amazon's pricing is set by algorithm and reacts to competitor stock; if Costco is sold out at the lower price, Amazon's price drifts up until Costco restocks. For Apple specifically, Costco is consistently $50 to $100 below Amazon all year and an additional $30 to $50 below on Cyber Monday.
